About me

My name is Leonor de Oliveira and I am a Portuguese clinical psychologist and sex therapist. I lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota between 2024 and 2026 for a two-year postdoc at the Institute for Sex and Gender Health at the University of Minnesota. Not only I survived three excruciatingly cold Winters, but I fell in love the Midwest color palete and seasons, which inspire the aesthetics of The Bored Sexologist.

I am back in Lisbon, working as a researcher and as therapist. I am settled in and trying to get back to writing about sex, relationships, and culture. You can fin me at Substack and Instagram, where I plan to mix evidence-based content with personal essays; sometimes in English, sometimes in my native language, Portuguese.

My initial training is in Systemic Clinical Psychology at the University of Lisbon. I am also a credentialed clinical psychologist and sex therapist by The Portuguese Board of Psychologists and The Portuguese Society for Clinica Sexology. I have a PhD in Human Sexuality from the University of Porto where I researched sexual boredom.

What else? I am white bisexual millennial cis-women with three cats that keeps a carrier in her trunk, just in case… I care deeply about the world we live in, its people, nature, and animals.

My personal moto in life is "do good for others and have pleasure". My hope is for the theboredsexologist do exactly that.
